I finally made a …
I finally made a choice after researching embroidery machines for 3 days. Rather than start out with a small 4×4 field, I figured that I’d go with a 5×7″. The Brother machines seems to be the best, so I selected the PE-770 because of the memory sticks. It is like the PE-700II, but without the cable. I prefer the memory sticks to transfer data.
I hope this info helps if you’re trying to find the best embroidery only machine. Now, I hope HSN will soon be selling the model I selected.
The size of the …
The size of the stitching field is definitely something I’m considering. What model has the 5x7or larger work area, and is the next step up? I’d also like a stand-alone machine that has the USB port, but you don’t have to connect it to a computer to use it. Also, one that has the snap-on hoops, not the screw-in type.
I think the only …
I think the only thing I would rethink if I had to buy another machine is getting one that has a larger stitching field. The HE-240 embroiders up to 4×4 inches. They do sell a larger hoop for this model, but it only goes up to 6.75×4. There are a lot of designs that come in 4×4, but there are a lot that come in 5×7. I would like to be able to have the option of stitching out larger designs. There are software programs that you can use to re-size designs, but some of these are pricey.

Hey, thanks for the info. I’m getting so anxious to get an embroidery machine. I spent the entire day today researching them, and I still can’t make up my mind. I am narrowing down the choices, however, from about 4 different ones. When I get one, I know that not one item of clothing or linens in my home will be safe. There’s so much you can do with such a machine!
I am no Brother …
I am no Brother expert either, however I do believe that the only difference between the two is the USB. You can download tons of stuff from the internet and transfer files right to your machine without having to buy expensive software. I am not sure if the SE-350 takes the cards. It probably does. They are the exact same machine otherwise and I was told that via email correspondence from a Brother rep. Hope that helps. Happy sewing!
Sorry, but your …
Sorry, but your question surpasses my limited knowledge. We don’t carry the SE-350, so I don’t have details about it. But if you search the Brother website, you’ll find the specs you can compare.

Is the basic difference between this machine and the SE-350 the USB cable? Doesn’t the SE-350 take a card that can be used to transfer info? Is the HE-240 better just because of the cable? I’m trying to decide which one to buy. Thanks!
This is the HE-240 …
This is the HE-240 which is basically the same as the SE-350, but this model has the USB cable and has a slot for embroidery cards. Brother has a ton of cards although they can be a bit expensive. It really is a great machine. You wouldn’t be disappointed.

I have this machine and LOVE it!! I bought this from HSN (in USA) which is nice because they have the “Flex Pay” option so it spreads your payments out each month. It is a great sewing machine and it the embroidery is so cool. I have never done machine embroidery, but this machine is so easy to use that now I am hooked! You wouldn’t regret getting this!
